Spice Mix Ingredients
You'll get things started by hitting the spice drawer. Dried dill, parsley, chives, garlic and onion powder, s&p, cayenne pepper and sesame seeds make up the spice mixture. If your gang isn't into the kick from the cayenne, dial it down or omit to make everyone happy.
What to include in a Chex Mix Recipe
As far as the chex mix part goes, I combined honey nut chex and rice chex along with mini pretzels, cashews and a couple small bags of parmesan crisps. The crisps come in various flavors so choose whichever you like best. You can also substitute or add Goldfish crackers, Cheez-Its, pretzel sticks or other small-square cereal.
Putting it all together...
Once you have the chex mix ingredients in a large bowl, you'll drizzle over a blend of melted butter, Worcestershire and honey. Toss until evenly coated, then add the spices and toss again until well distributed. Try to spread the mixture into as much of a single layer as you can, and use two rimmed, baking sheets if needed. Then in the oven they go!
Low and slow is the way to go to get that crispy, buttery, baked-in flavor of the spices. Serve when cool enough to handle and pour yourself a cold one when ready to dig in. Cheers, friends!!
FAQs & Tips
If you're a chex mix fan it's definitely more economical to make your own rather than paying store prices for small quantities. Plus you'll have the basic ingredients on hand to make spice variations in subsequent batches.
Baking your Chex Mix low and slow will yield the best result and have a much lower chance of burning. The mixture should look dry and crisp with spices adhering to the cereal, pretzels and nuts. Roasting your snack mix in an even single layer as much as possible is key as well.
Chex Mix will last 4-6 weeks when stored in an airtight container. Also, it can be frozen in a freezer-friendly bag up to 4 months.

While, of course, I love sweet snacks too, the savoury ones have always been my favourite. Even better when it's a sweet and savoury combo. This tray looks so good and dangerously addictive!
